A JDF-enabled Workflow Simulation Tool

چکیده

Job Definition Format (JDF) is a relatively young industry standard that specifies a workflow model and a data format for describing print jobs and exchanging production information. Although most vendors today offer JDF-enabled products, little research has been conducted aiming at measuring the benefits of using JDF in production. One reason for this is likely the lack of suitable tools. This paper presents a JDF-compliant tool that can be used to simulate the interaction of arbitrary devices in a print production workflow. This tool has many usage scenarios, one of them being the possibility to simulate devices in “live” production in order to measure JDF performance and detect production bottlenecks.

Integrating Systems in the Print Production Workflow Aspects of Implementing JDF

The print production workflow consists of various disparate systems—from production equipment to management information systems. During the production of a printed product, information regarding the product must be communicated between the systems in the workflow. Job Definition Format (JDF) is an industry standard that specifies this information interchange. It specifies a digital job ticket f...

A Tool for Testing Compliance with CIP4’s Interoperability Conformance Specifications

Job Definition Format (JDF) is a relatively young industry standard developed by The International Cooperation for the Integration of Processes in Prepress, Press and Postpress (CIP4). JDF specifies a data format for describing print jobs and exchanging production information between systems in the print production workflow. Most vendors in the printing industry today offer “JDF-enabled” produc...

Simulation of the production chain by use of an XML-based Job Definition Format

Based on the XMLstandard a vendor and platform independent exchange format has been defined in order to manage the integration of the complete production chain. This Job Definition Format (JDF) has been initiated by the four companies Adobe, Agfa, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen and MAN Roland and is focused on the workflow of the printing and publishing industries. The further development and main...

Alces – A Tool for Testing JDF Compliance

Job Definition Format (JDF) is an industry standard that specifies a data format for describing print jobs and exchanging production information between systems in the print production workflow. Implementing JDF support in a device, such as a digital printing press, is a complex task. Developers need tools for testing that their implementations conform with the specifications provided by CIP4, ...

Discrete Event Simulation of Networked Print Production

In print media industries networked production gains increasing importance. The relatively young XML based communication standard (JDF/JMF) allows to specify workflow models and data exchange. The proposed concept of a simulation framework for modelling of networked print production is based on an object-oriented approach implementing modules for the resources and controls applied in this parti...
